1- MARATHON'S WEEKLY REPORT
. Last Call for Partners: The Marathon needs YOU to host debates in 40 more cities
The Marathon is seeking for the last 40 partners: local organisations (clubs, associations, institutes, municipalities, academic centres...) anchored in big, medium and small-size towns and interested to add a debate on 'Where is Europe going?" to their programme. Check is your town is already on the list (http://www.newropeans.org/en/ndm/index.php3) and if not, suggest a new stop over: mhcaillol at europe2020.org

Prefaced by Jean Guyot, former collaborator of Jean Monnet and the first financial director of the European Coal and Steel Community, Vision Europe 2020 is the sum-book of Europe 2020's reports, papers and executive summaries since 1999; it is also the corpus of analyses on which is based the 14 propositions debated in the Marathon.

. Triumphal tour throughout Romania and Romanian government circuits
Geta Grama, Zoe Petre, Vasile Magradean, Anca Teodorescu and Christian Norocel: the Romanian Dream-Team turned into a success the passage of the Marathon in Romania. Three debates in three cities, meetings with top-officials (President Ion Iliescu and his advisers, former-President Emil Constantinescu,...), extensive press-coverage, the Marathon was really a big European event in Romania.

. Iraq to influence articles in EU constitution - The current split in Europe over the crisis in Iraq will influence the Convention's drafting of articles on foreign policy.
Convention president Valéry Giscard d'Estaing says that in the new constitution there would be "obligations committing everyone" in the area of Common Foreign and Security Policy, CFSP.

Aznar puts pressure on Blair to join the euro - British prime minister Tony Blair is "running on one leg" as a European leader if he keeps the pound, Spanish prime minister Jose Maria Aznar has warned. Talking to the Daily Telegraph Mr Aznar stressed that British euro membership would be good for "Europe, for the transatlantic relationship and for the UK."

. Polish government collapse raises referendum fears - Poland's ruling coalition collapsed unexpectedly on Saturday following a row over a parliamentary vote. Prime Minister Leszek Miller decided to eject the Polish Peasant Party (PSL), his junior partner, from the cabinet just a few months ahead of the country's referendum on joining the EU.

. New coalition in Austria escapes European protest - Europe has learned to live with the right-winger. When Austrian chancellor Wolfgang Schüssel on Friday announced the formation of a new black-blue government not one single voice of protest was heard. Two years ago the 14 EU partners froze bilateral diplomatic relations with Austria, when the Freedom Party entered the Vienna government.
