A Panel Discussion With:
Arjun Makhijani
Institute for Energy and Environmental Research
Natalya Manzurova
Chelyabinsk Branch, Russian Union of Chernobyl Invalids
Cathie Sullivan
Peace Action New Mexico
You are cordially invited to a forum on grassroots NGO collaboration on
nuclear safety issues, sponsored by ISAR: Initiative for Social Action and
Renewal in Eurasia (http://www.isar.org). ISAR, a nonprofit organization
based in Washington, DC, has 20 years of experience supporting grassroots
citizen initiative groups and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) that
address local environmental problems in the US and Eurasia (the former
Soviet Union).
Nuclear safety expert Dr. Arjun Makhijani, president of IEER, has written
extensively on nuclear safety, environmental, and security issues, most
recently publishing a report assessing the security vulnerabilities of the
Bush administration's energy plan. Cathie Sullivan, an environmental
justice and disarmament activist, has worked for over decade on nuclear
issues, including peace actions designed to hold New Mexico's Los Alamos
National Laboratory accountable to the public. Natalya Manzurova became a
nuclear activist after working both as a nuclear engineer at the nuclear
weapons facility in the closed Russian city of Ozersk and as a supervisor of
the Chernobyl cleanup. Sullivan and Manzurova partnering on nuclear safety
work through ISAR's partnerships and exchanges program project in Siberia,
where they are collaborating to raise awareness about radiation and public
health. Lucy Roberts, ISAR's Partnership and Exchange Program Officer, will
moderate the discussion.
Tuesday, March 18, from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m.
