General Duties/Description: Under the overall supervision of the Russian,
East European, and Central Asian Studies (REECAS) Program Chair/Center
Director, the duties of the Assistant Director in the REECAS Center at the
Jackson School of International Studies are:
Administrative Duties
Day-to-day management of the REECAS Program and Center office, including
supervision of the following tasks performed by the office staff:
Recording and monitoring expenditures of state, grant, and endowed funds,
and liaison with the Jackson School business office.
Writing, printing and distribution of the REECAS Center newsletter, and
preparation of publicity materials of all kinds. Maintenance of E-mail
listservs for faculty, graduate students, and members of the public with an
interest in the REECAS Program and its activities.
Updating information on the REECAS Center website.
Collection of attendance figures and other data on Center activities.
Other routine work of the REECAS Program secretary and work-study employees,
including liaison with the Jackson School Student Services office.
Organization of conferences (generally one or two a year) sponsored by the
REECAS Center, coordinating with co-sponsors where appropriate, and
scheduling visiting speakers for the REECAS Center seminar program.
Help in preparing grant applications and grant reports.
Assisting the Center Director in the administration of the REECAS Center.
Outreach Duties
Coordination of the Center's outreach program, including liaison with other
universities, community colleges, the K- 12 school system and the business
community, acquiring outreach materials and making them available, and
keeping the financial records of these activities.
Coordination of activities shared with other Centers in the Jackson School.
Teaching Duties
Teaching one course per contract year in the Assistant Director's area
academic expertise.
Requirements: M.A. or higher degree, preferably related to the REECAS area.
Must have significant experience in program coordination and educational
liaison. Must be able to work independently and participate in
decision-making. Should also have experience of developing and implementing
outreach activities and the preparation and management of grants.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum
qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a
license/certification/registration.
Desirable: Ph.D. highly desirable. Preference will be given to candidates
with work experience relating to Russia, East Europe and Central Asia, and
knowledge of one or more of the languages of the region, and to those with
teaching experience.

qualifications and experience.
