TITLE: Director, Media Development Division
REPORTS TO: VP of Programs, Washington, DC
POSITION LOCATION: Washington, DC
ABOUT IREX: IREX is an international nonprofit organization dedicated
to the advancement of knowledge. Central to its mission is the
empowering of individuals and institutions to participate
meaningfully in civil society. IREX administers programs between the
United States and Eastern Europe, the New Independent States (NIS),
Asia, and the Near East.
SUMMARY OF POSITION: IREX seeks a Director of its Media Development
Division that implements twelve media development projects in Central
and Eastern Europe and Eurasia.  The division focuses on development
of private, independent media and currently receives its funding from
USAID.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
* Managing division staff and activities to include: development and
implementation of policies and procedures to streamline program
management and compliance with funder financial and program
regulations; communication within division; and proper staffing of
division.
* Maintaining excellent relations with funders.
* Providing strategic guidance and leadership in development of
division programs.
* Overseeing recruitment of short- and long-term field personnel.
* Overseeing division's new business development in cooperation with
VP for Programs and Development Division.
* Developing and maintaining a PR program to highlight division
successes to NGO community, media community, Hill, and US Government
community
* Maintaining excellent relations with other key media donors and
implementers.
* Representing Division interests within IREX and maintaining close
professional ties with other IREX division directors.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Extensive senior-level experience (preferably 10+ years) in
international development or experience managing large projects and
staff across multiple countries.
* Experience in journalism and/or demonstrated understanding of the
practices and the ethics of the trade.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* 5-10 years experience in managing USAID-funded projects desirable.
* Excellent leadership skills.
* Demonstrated ability to work diplomatically with US government,
Congress, other donors, and staff.
* Demonstrated ability to work in a team, seek and utilize advice and
input from staff.
