Sources of Information
CivilSoc is
an e-mail list managed by Civil Society International. It carries job postings
as well as a variety of information on conferences, organizations and programs revolving around the third sector in the NIS.
Past CivilSoc postings are available at the list
archives, but if you are already subscribed to the list--you'll
see them first! Subscription is free.
The
Alliance for Conflict Transformation, "an independent nonprofit organization
dedicated to building peace," operates several "Jobs/Scholarships Announcement
Forums," accessible for a fee.
EurasiaNet.org has a
Grants and Employment page featuring opportunities in "Central Eurasia."
The
Network of East-West Women
list "circulates announcements about jobs, internships, fellowships,
grants, scholarships and other information about possible sources of funding
for women's NGOs and individuals. Although it is preferable that these
announcements have either a topical focus on women or a regional focus on CEE
and NIS, general announcements of funding opportunities that might be of
potential use to our subscribers are also appropriate for posting on this

Following are links to employment pages at Mild88 organizations that frequently have openings. All links will not necessarily have jobs
available at the present time, but these are among the principal sites you should become acquainted with if you want a job that is located in or related to the former Soviet Union or Central/Eastern Europe.
American
Councils, formerly ACTR/ACCELS, manages a number of US-Eurasia
educational exhanges which offers a variety of employment opportunities in
the region.
Central
and East European Law Initiative (CEELI) of the American Bar
Association is based in the ABA offices in Washington, D.C., and has
field offices in more than 20 countries throughout Central and Eastern Europe
and the former Soviet Union. Openings include "liaison positions" in the field
offices, research fellows, office internships and more.
Counterpart
International is a non-profit international human development
organization founded in 1965 as the Foundation for the Peoples of the South
Pacific. It is headquartered in Washington D.C. and work in more than 60
countries. Much of its work in the NIS has centered on strenthening the
nonprofit sector there.
Eurasia
Foundation is a privately managed grantmaking organization dedicated
to funding programs that build democratic and free market institutions in
the twelve New Independent States (NIS) of the former Soviet Union: Armenia,
Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Moldova,
Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. Positions vary
from highly skilled to entry-level. Jobs include technical positions for
Eurasia's NIS based programs, and frequent entry-level positions in
Washington DC offices.
IREX
used to be known only an organizer of
academic exchanges with the CEE/NIS region, but it has expanded into many other
areas: development of Internet access in the region, programs with media, etc.
ISAR has
eight field offices int he former Soviet Union and supports civil society
programs and environmental work through a variety of programs, including small grant support to grassroots organizations.
Network of East-West Women
frequently seeks interns and volunteers.
USAID
A listing of jobs that USAID is currently hiring for. All jobs are PSC (personal
services contractor) which means a fixed term position without civil service
protection.
Other Job Search Resources
DEVJOBS Information Service, based in the Philippines, claims to provide the
"largest number of jobs announcements in the development fields."
DevNetJobs.org
maintains a current list of international development jobs, fellowship
postings, and a listing of international NGOs with employment opportunities.
Eldis is a
Web-based "gateway to development information" edited by a team at the Institute
of Development Studies in Sussex, England. Among the excellent resources at
Eldis is a large and updated set of listings on job openings in the development
field,
Jobs with Major Development Agencies.
Job Index from American Association of Teachers of Slavic and East European
Languages (AATSEEL). Job postings tend toward teaching/lecturing positions in US Universities, but also include positions with US and NIS organizations.
The
Bucknell
Russian department's list of job links is for
Russian-speakers wanting to work in Russia, the NIS states, and East Europe;
however, there are jobs in the US and Canada with companies operating in those
areas and the webmaster indicates that there will be more such listings in the
future.
Human Resources Online
is a Russian site dedicated to "Classified ads" (available in English or Russian) on jobs available and jobs wanted. Positions are classified by work location or area of specialization.
Idealfit.com is a project of Action Without Borders. First called the
Contact Center Network, AWB was founded in 1995 "to build a network of
neighborhood Contact Centers that would provide a one-stop shop for volunteer
opportunities and nonprofit services in communities around the world." Since
then, this site claims to have become "the richest community of nonprofit and
volunteering resources on the Web, with information provided by 20,000
organizations in 140 countries, and thousands of users every day."
The
Institute of International
Education claims to be "the world leader in the international exchange of
people and ideas."
Indiana
University's REEIweb: Jobhunting Resources on the Internet contains an
extensive list of good links to Web pages with job announcements related to
Russia and Eastern Europe.
Job.ru
is in Russian.
Overseas
Jobs.Com advertises itself as "the leading source for overseas
jobs." It purports to list internships, too, but where these might be
located on the iste is less than obvious.
ReliefWeb is a project of the United Nations Office for
the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
Slavophilia Maintains an extensive list of employers and job lists relating to the NIS and Central and Eastern Europe.
