Internships are an excellent way to gain valuable work experience. They can also sometimes lead to full-time jobs. Many NGOs that routinely hire staff for projects in Eastern Europe or Eurasia also offer internship opportunities. Some are formal, annually advertised positions (usually in summer), others may be more ad hoc and recruiting is done mainly by word of mouth. Some offer pay; others don't.
This page on Internship Opportunities is divided into two parts. The first consists of opportunities that are open and currently being advertised. [For information on submitting your own internship announcement to CivilSoc, please read "To Submit a Posting" below. Please note that Civil Society International does not charge any fees for advertising internship opportunities.]
The second part consists of announcements that organizations previously posted to CivilSoc and to this website that made reference to internship positions. Individuals interested in exploring internship opportunities at a particular organization can use these announcements as a starting point for inquiring about current internship programs and opportunities. Please note that some internship opportunities may be open to nationals of any country, others may be more restricted.
In addition to this page, internship seekers should consult our Job Search Resources page. You should also consider becoming a member of CivilSoc, our 2,900+ member listserv, which advertises internships from time to time. All CivilSoc postings are saved at the CivilSoc Archives; the archives represent an excellent resource for learning about what specific organizations are doing in Eurasia. There is also a link to the Archives from our home page, www.civilsoc.org.

operating in the Balkans in 1992 with only three employees. Today its regional
headquarters in Bucharest runs P&G's business for seven countries: Romania,
Bulgaria, Republic of Moldova, Yugoslavia, Bosnia, Albania, Macedonia. With
over 250 employees and a turnover of some tens of millions of dollars, P&G's
Balkans subsidiary is completely integrated into the company's worldwide
network. Please visit us on
www.pgbalkans.com!
Special note: the P&G--Balkans web page titled
Opportunities, lists numerous seminars, workshops, and scholarship
programs. For some of them the application deadline was December 30. But two
workshops, to be held in Bucharest in late April, "Persuasive Selling" and
"Balkans Case Study," have a deadline of March 25, 2002.
Please note that effective March 15, 2002, CSI asks organizations with budgets above US$100,000/year that are advertising a salaried position, to pay a small fee for job announcements that we post. We hope these fees will not be burdensome to those of you accustomed to sending job announcements to CSI; they are designed to help us continue producing CivilSoc and our website at the lowest possible cost. We will continue to post announcements of internships, volunteer opportunities, as well as upcoming events, organizational developments, etc., free of charge.
Before posting a notice of job openings or internship opportunities to CivilSoc, the e-bulletin of Civil Society International, please review the Guidelines below and then send your announcement directly to [email protected]. If you want your notice also to appear on this web page, CSI's Jobs and Internships (see above), send a message to this effect to [email protected] or call (206) 523-4755.
Guidelines for Posting Job or Internship Announcements to
CivilSoc
* Please keep announcements concise: 500-750 words, or about 5-7
kilobytes, maximum. If you submit longer material, we will probably shorten it.
Putting a link in your announcement to a longer version at a website is one way
to keep postings short.
* No attachments. Send your message as a simple text file, and NOT as an
attachment. Attachments can carry viruses; tend to be big; and sometimes require
software that not all list members have.
* Descriptive subject line. Use the Subject line of your announcement to
summarize its contents as accurately as possible. This makes it more likely that
your message will be read by those you want to reach; it also saves other list
members the time required to open and read e-mail of no concern to them. Just
four or five well-chosen words can often communicate a great deal. Do not put
phrases such as "Please post immediately" in the Subject line. Also, please do
not write your Subject line all in capitals, LIKE THIS. Make normal use of
upper and lower case letters, Like This.
* Do not include extraneous material, such as "Best wishes for the New
Year to CSI," in announcements posted directly to
[email protected].
Messages sent to
[email protected] are meant to be reviewed quickly by the
moderator and approved for distribution, as is, to members of the
CivilSoc list. Use the e-mail address,
[email protected], for
any administrative communications, questions, or comments directed to CSI.
If this is your first time using CSI's job announcement service, and a fee is required, please indicate your billing information, including a telephone number and e-mail address, in a message to [email protected]. If this information changes for you, please remember to keep us updated.
The fee structure is as follows:
STANDARD RATE | NONPROFIT RATE | NONPROFIT PREFERRED* |
|
|
|
* The NONPROFIT PREFERRED rate is for nonprofits that submitted 6 or more postings in a calendar year.
