PROJECT DIRECTOR AND SENIOR PROGRAM OFFICER--ALGERIA
FREEDOM HOUSE
Freedom House, founded in 1941, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that
promotes an engaged U.S. foreign policy; evaluates human rights conditions;
sponsors public education campaigns; facilitates training and other
assistance to promote democracy and free market reforms; and provides
support for the rule of law, free media and effective local governance,
seeks (1) a Project Director and (2) a Senior Program Officer for its Human
Rights and Victims Rights Support project in Algeria, a project of the
RIGHTS Program. The RIGHTS Program is a global project in which Freedom
House leads a Consortium of organizations to address rule of law reform and
human rights promotion and protection.
(1) The Project Director will take the lead role in directing and
implementing the Algeria Human Rights and Victims Rights Project and
managing an office in Algeria. The Project Director will be responsible for
program development and implementation, financial management, public
relations, staff supervision, general oversight of daily office management,
providing technical assistance and training.
The appropriate candidate should have a minimum of 5 years experience with
international human rights and project management. Experience managing
democracy programs funded by USAID and private foundations required.
Ability to read, write and speak English required; ability to read, write,
and speak French and/or Arabic necessary. Experience working abroad,
particularly in Algeria or other North African countries required. Bachelor'
s degree required; Master's level preferred.
(2) The Senior Program Officer will provide back up and support to the
Project Director in all areas of program management, operations and
administration for all programs managed and administered from the Algeria
office. The Senior Program Officer will assist the Project Director in
assuming the responsibility of and making decisions for organizational
leadership, program implementation, financial management, public relations,
and training. This will include, but is not limited to such things as
program development, supervising of staff, monitoring the program, and
overseeing the management for daily operations.
The appropriate candidate should have a minimum of 3 years experience with
international human rights and project management. Experience managing
democracy programs funded by USAID and private foundations required.
Ability to read, write and speak English required; ability to read, write,
and speak French and/or Arabic necessary. Knowledge of Algeria and other
North African countries required. Bachelor's degree required; Master's
level preferred.
