Survey of Women's Freedom in the Middle East and North Africa

Freedom House is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that promotes liberty
and democracy throughout the world. It seeks an engaged U.S. foreign policy;
evaluates human rights conditions; sponsors public education campaigns;
facilitates training and other assistance to promote democracy and free
market reforms; and provides support for the rule of law, free media, and
effective local governance.
Freedom House is seeking a Senior Research Coordinator for its Survey of
Women's Freedom in the Middle East and North Africa. The principal
responsibility of the Senior Research Coordinator will be to provide
research, logistical, and administrative assistance for a new survey on
women's freedom in the Middle East and North Africa and in-country
roundtable discussions and focus groups in support of the survey. Duties
will include, but will not be limited to: assisting in the establishment of
and interacting with outside academic advisory committee for survey;
assisting in the development of the survey methodology; identifying and
interacting with country report writers; ensuring the timely completion of
survey reports; evaluating country reports for quality and accuracy;
ensuring deadlines are met in all phases of project work; possibly editing
reports; dealing with FH finance department on contracts and payments;
assisting in planning and implementing in-country roundtables and focus
groups; assisting in planning and implementing promotional events; and other
duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of international affairs, with
specific focus on political conditions around the world, women's rights, and
survey methodology issues. Candidates who have strong English language
writing and editing abilities are preferred. Ability to read Arabic is also
greatly preferred. Expertise in the Middle East and/or North Africa is very
helpful. Bachelor's degree is required; Law degree is useful. Preference
will be given to applicants with a background in Middle East or Islamic
studies. Domestic and international travel may be required.
