Six-Month Consultancy for Citizen of Central Asian Country, to be
Based in Bishkek

[CivilSoc Ed. note: Allavida, a UK-based charity, is the name by which the
work of Charity Know How was formerly known.]
Allavida is a London-based NGO with extensive experience of work in the
Newly Independent States and Central and Eastern Europe. We are planning to
expand our work in Central Asia and are therefore seeking an
experienced and confident consultant, starting April 2003, to identify and
research potential programme ideas and opportunities, and represent Allavida
where appropriate.
The Consultant's role will include:
- Maintaining contact with existing Allavida partners in the region and
continue exploration of how Allavida can support them, develop existing
ideas for programmes and explore potential new ideas for partnership.
- Researching potential new partners and programmes for Allavida across the
region.
- Identifying needs and trends in civil society throughout the region and
keep Allavida informed of opportunities and threats for the sector as a
whole.
- Establishing and maintaining contact with range of civil society groups
and contacts in the region.
- Establishing and maintaining relationships with local and foreign donor
and grant-making organisations, multi- and bi-lateral agencies, local and
national governmental institutions.
- Assisting in the development of Allavida's overall strategy for the
region.
- Assessing the level and range of similar activities in the region.
- Exploring potential funding opportunities with a range of donor
organisations, including private and public, local and foreign.
- Assisting in the development of funding proposals.
Allavida is seeking an individual with good experience of working in civil
society across the region. The consultant will need to be creative and
innovative and should be used to working independently. They will need to be
able to communicate effectively with a variety of groups and individuals.
Experience and skills required:
- Indigenous to Central Asian region, able to be based in Bishkek,
Kyrgyzstan and to travel throughout the region.
- Minimum five years experience of working in civil society.
- Excellent spoken and written English.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Education to degree level. Excellent computer skills. Analytical skills
and good judgement.
The consultant will be contracted directly to Allavida on a fixed-term
six-month contract, renewable for a further six months subject to progress
on developing Allavida's funded activities in Central Asia.
