CALL FOR SCHOLARSHIPS
The Economics Education and Research Consortium (EERC) and the National University "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy" (Kyiv, Ukraine) invite interested organizations and individuals to establish scholarships to sponsor best Ukrainian students at the only world-class graduate program in economics in Ukraine.
To address Ukraine's urgent need for modern market-oriented economics education, in 1996 EERC, in collaboration with the National University "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy," established the master's program in economics as Ukraine's first international-caliber graduate program in economics.
The goal of the master's program is to prepare a new generation of Ukrainian economists that will be qualified to work on the improvement of the economic and policymaking environment in the country. EERC graduates already work as economists and analysts with the parliament, government, policymaking institutions, and private companies. Other graduates pursue academic careers and are enrolled in Ph.D. programs in Europe, the United States, and Canada.
The EERC M.A. program provides its students with a rigorous two-year academic curriculum; courses are taught in English primarily by faculty visiting from universities in Europe and North America. The level of studies is fully comparable to that found in leading Western universities. The program provides a well-designed combination of applied and theoretical courses in all major areas of economics. The EERC program is by far Ukraine's largest source of modern well-trained economists. It is one of just four such programs serving the region, along with the Center for Economic Research and Graduate Education (CERGE) in Prague, the Central European University (CEU) in Budapest, and the New Economic School (NES) in Moscow.
Starting with the academic year 2002-03, the program has begun to introduce a tuition scheme, backed by student contributions, sponsored scholarships, assistantships, and paid internships. To ensure that the most deserving young Ukrainians have access to this unique educational program, EERC is establishing a financial aid system sponsored by corporations, governments, and individuals.
The program's scholarship fund has already received donations from Citibank Foundation, Kraft Foods Ukraina, Tetra Pak Ukraine, the Swedish Government, the Open Society Institute, visiting professors, and EERC alumni. Due to this support, Ukraine will have a new generation of leaders capable of guiding the country's integration into the world economy and international bodies such as the World Trade Organization and, eventually, the European Union.
If you are interested to join the scholarship program, please contact EERC Development Department by tel.: (38-044) 239-2494 or e-mail: bocharova at eerc.kiev.ua. For more details about the program, please visit EERC web site: http://www.eerc.kiev.ua.
