The American Home in Vladimir, Russia (120 miles northeast of Moscow) would
like to provide area English teachers with a four week series of workshops
in the spring of 2003--from mid-May to mid-June.
We have had an English program in operation since 1992, and we regularly
provide brief workshops for area teachers that are very well attended and
very well received. However, there is a need for more extended
programs--which we cannot afford to fund out of our limited resources.
Several ESL/EFL specialists are prepared to work with us on this project.
The American Home will organize everything on the Russian side and provide
full support.
We are doing a search for any organization (or individual) that might be
interested in assisting us.
We have not been able to find a major foundation or any other "usual
suspect" that is currently funding the promotion of the teaching of American
English--even though our experience has clearly and overwhelming
demonstrated that there is considerable value in doing this. (Our
students--more than 350 a term--learn a good deal more than grammar and
vocabulary at the American Home.)
A major opportunity to promote a better understanding of America is being
missed!
