REPORTS TO: Senior Communications Officer, Development Division
POSITION LOCATION: Washington, DC
ABOUT IREX
IREX is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement
of knowledge. Central to its mission is the empowering of individuals and
institutions to participate meaningfully in civil society. IREX administers
programs between Europe, Eurasia, the Near East, Asia and, the United
States.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
IREX seeks applicants for the position of Database Training Officer. The
Database Training Officer will be responsible for oversight of all aspects
of database management, including staff training and data standards. The
current system, the IREX Info Manager (IIM), is a large, custom, relational
database used for tracking and accessing a broad range of organizational
data. Please note: This is not a developer position.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Training
� Trains IREX staff in the proper use of the IIM
� Creates and updates training and reference materials for the IIM
� Educates staff members about how best to use the IIM to meet their
information management needs
Data Quality
� Establishes and enforces data standards
� Monitors and evaluates the quality and consistency of data being
entered
� Performs and/or coordinates data clean-up and data entry as needed
Liaison
� Acts as a liaison between staff and IT developers to ensure needs
are being met
� Evaluates the user interface and other aspects of the system to
identify potential improvement areas
QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must be well organized, able to work independently, creative,
skilled at handling multiple tasks, and able to adhere to strict deadlines.
Other specific qualifications should include:
� Familiarity with relational database concepts
� A strong knowledge of relevant software (MS Office, Excel, Access,
etc.)
� Knowledge of SQL (a plus)
� International experience and /or language abilities, especially in
connection with the NIS and CEE (highly desirable)
� BA or equivalent experience
� Ability to work in a team environment
� Candidates should be extremely detail oriented and have strong
interpersonal skills
