Program Overview:
SITs International Policy Advocacy (IPA) program brings together
advocacy specialists from nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and other
civil society organizations to deepen their understanding of policy-
making processes and increase their organizations influence on the
international institutions that impact their work.
The IPA program takes place in two of the worlds major international
policy-making centers Washington, D.C., and New York City as well as
on the SIT campus in Vermont. Throughout IPAs intensive four-week
training program, participants work together to strategize and gain
essential skills in advocacy such as coalition building, media relations,
and lobbying. IPA programs have enabled participants advocacy in the
areas of poverty reduction, environmental conservation, child labor,
women in politics, protections of human rights, and social justice.
*Participants attend sessions on advocacy principles and meet with
representatives from organizations such as the World Bank, United
Nations, U.S. Congress, and international NGOs to establish access to and
understanding of the organizations that impact their work.
*Participants design and present Action Plans for post-program
implementation within their home organizations.
*IPA graduates return to their communities with skills that support their
efforts to create more democratic societies locally, nationally, and
around the globe.
*Customized, on-site training is also available.
