<[email protected]>. Ernest Ametistov passed away on September
7, 1998, after a grave illness--half a year before his pending
retirement as a justice of the Russian Federation Constitutional
Court. He was a Scholar Emeritus of the Russian Federation, member of
the Russia Association for International Law, the Union of
Journalists of Russia, and the Moscow Helsinki Group, and the author
of the by-laws of the historical and educational Memorial Society.
The Ernest Ametistov Fund was created shortly after his untimely
death by a group of friends and his widow, Olga Nikolayevna
Zimenkova-Ametistova.

The Ametistov Foundation is a non-profit organization created to
contribute to the shaping of a genuine civil society in Russia by
means of distributing special legal knowledge and experience in the
field of international and constitutional protection of human rights.
The Foundation fulfills these goals by conducting educational
programs in the sphere of human rights for young journalists,
politicians, officials, lawyers and other professionals closely
connected with humanitarian problems.
The items of international protection program are: human rights and
the development of international law, control functions of the United
Nations in the sphere of human rights, regional cooperation of states
in the sphere of human rights, responsibility for violating human
rights, international private law and human rights. Constitutional
protection program includes: 1993 Russian Federation Constitution and
basic human and civil rights and freedoms, the system of
constitutional control in the Russian Federation, protection of human
rights in criminal legal proceedings, protection of rights and
freedoms in civil legal proceedings, protection of human rights in
the administrative justice system in foreign countries, protection of
human rights in the sphere of executive power, parliamentary
mechanisms of protecting human rights, types of basic human rights
and freedoms foreseen in the Russian Constitution, means of
protecting individual rights and freedoms.
