We cordially invite you to a briefing with the wives of the
disappeared in Belarus at The Rayburn House Office Building (House
International Affairs Committee), Room # 2255 in Washington DC. It
will take place this Friday, July 21, 2001from 11:30am-1:00pm.
Four women whose husbands have disappeared or have been imprisoned in
Belarus over the last two years are visiting the U.S. to tell their
stories. Their husbands were prominent members of the opposition who
challenged the regime of Alexander Lukashenko.
In recent weeks, two prosecutors have fled Belarus and sought refuge
in the U.S., making allegations of a government death squad
responsible for the disappearances.
This is a unique opportunity to hear first hand witnesses from
Belarus on the eve of Presidential elections on September 9th.
LUNCH WILL BE SERVED.
Press are Welcome.
